Using ecospatial GIS to site offshore wind. Geospatial technology helps power Maine's ocean wind industry. An article on Sewall's Ocean Wind Energy GIS in North American Clean Energy

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has recently allocated over $200 million in grants to develop and deploy offshore wind energy projects in the Great Lakes and Gulf of Mexico, and off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.  This funding is dedicated in part to advancing offshore wind technologies through select demonstration projects, seven of which have been awarded first phase funding for engineering, design, and permitting; with potential follow-on funding for siting, construction, and installation. Two of these projects are located in the Gulf of Maine (GoM), a great untapped source of deep water, commercial-scale wind. More
